The awakening of Students
When the intellectual abilities and reasoning of
students broaden due to an increasing knowledge
into students’ affairs that constitute the well-being and challenges
affecting daily student standards of living, one can surely expect a
clash of diverse opinions, suggestions and ideas. The University of
Energy and Natural Resources should not be marked
as a baby or crawling tertiary institution but as one that is coming of
age. Probity, accountability and Transparency are therefore expected on all facets of Academic, Social, Financial and political spheres of life. In an age where one needs not leave the boundaries surrounding his/her home to know what is happening in the world, being circumspect with regards to release of information and sticking to the facts are key in diverting misinformation which leads to a banter of back and forth opinions, suggestions and ideas. So then we can all understand the fact of students knowing and hearing the right information, but let’s also consider students representing the right information that will also seek to champion and direct the course of students in a positive direction.
The average Ghanaian will have a radio to listen and receive information on a daily basis. If close to 60% of the population in Ghana are illiterates, then should close to 40% of Ghanaians be informed whiles the other percentage wallow in ignorance, Definitely not, so I personally see the issue of misinformation on this perspective in this sense; do not just think about reading and listening to the right information, but also about representing the right information.
The time for true democracy and a clear representation of the right information must be championed and worked on.
Let us be awakened to current affairs concerning the well-being of students and our nation and world as a whole. Excitatio Alumini.
